Hi! I'm Joan. I'm a piano and guitar teacher located in Commack (near Macy's). I teach out of my home and I also travel to surrounding towns. I have been teaching piano and guitar for 25 years. I'm in my 40's.

My students are as musically diverse as this melting pot we live in. I cater the lessons to each individual, though I start children with a particular course of study to expose them to many styles. For adults, I like to gear the direction of the lessons toward the student's particular musical tastes, whether Classical, oldies, Beatles, Pop or a blend of everything...

My philosophy is to teach for the pure pleasure of playing, with and without the music in front of the student. I've found, from years of meeting former piano players, that if lessons are too competitive, and too dependent on just playing what's written, when the student finishes the lessons, they completely drop the music and forget everything except maybe half a song. I want to make it enjoyable and easy enough so that it will be a lifelong talent and hobby.

I'm happy to take on new students throughout the year. I'm off the last 2 weeks of August.

I have performed as a comedian at clubs around New York and in bands and duos in my wilder days.
