I began teaching piano while I was in high school and sincerely hope that I didn't lead those poor students astray! My career as an accompanist began before that, in junior high, when I was given the opportunity by my vocal music teacher, to accompany voice lessons in the summer and to play for the choirs at school. That experience continued through high school and into college, where I was employed by the university as an accompanist while earning my degrees. After I began my public school teaching career, I continued to work as an accompanist or director for various community groups and churches.
After a wonderful career spanning 33 years, I have retired from public school teaching, but still maintain a studio in my home and am choir director and pianist at my church. I love teaching and have found that, while I enjoy all my students, I am especially drawn to my adult students and my students with special needs. I also enjoy working with home-schoolers.
I am interested in students and families who understand that learning is a process and takes disciplined, daily practice to achieve satisfying skill levels.
