Started taking lessons at five years of age and studied privately with two different teachers until graduated from Deerfield Academy 1938. Then New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, until service in Navy for WWII interrupted education.

Played with several small groups both classical and popular music during early teen years. At Deerfield I was concert master of classical orchestra and had a 13 piece dance band. Summers I played with several dance bands (the big band era) including Ruby Newman, Boston, and Frank Cott, Montreal. After discharge from Navy at end of WWII I played in studio orchestra of major movie studio and then became interested in the growing country music field and went on the road with various country bands. During the past 25 years I played for many years with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra in Florida, traveled with The Spirituals gospel group, consistently play in many church orchestras, and do considerable recording with country artists.
