About the Suzuki Method...
~The Suzuki Method teaches music the same way that people learn a language. First comes hearing and imitation(speaking) and then, finally, reading. In my teaching I focus first on ear training and the ability to hear and produce a firm, pleasing tone. We work on every aspect of the body from feet to fingers and how they move and produce tone.
~While the student gains competence on the keyboard he is motivated by learning to play pleasing music and not being limited by his level of reading ability.
~When he is comfortable moving around the keyboard it is then easy to understand the movement and relationships of notes on the printed music staff and the student is ready to begin reading. Reading progresses easily from that point on.
~For young children and into the early teens the parent attends all lessons and assists the home practice. I give the parent preparation, training, and ongoing support in how to supervise the student at home practice time.
~In my studio I offer individual lessons using two side by side grand pianos, music theory teaching with fun games, music history, and beginning composition. I have two yearly Studio Recitals - Autumn and Spring.
~There are opportunities for participation in Honor Recitals, Festivals, Workshops, Competitions, Auditions, Suzuki Summer Institutes, and the twice a year Suzuki Piano Graduation Concerts at Spivey Hall.
