Shannon L. Small has taught music since 1984.She specializes in woodwinds, theory & history of all levels, as well as beginning-intermediate piano & classical strings. She emphasizes fundamentals & gears lessons to each individual student's needs & learning style, therefore providing only private lessons (not group). Also offering small ensemble opportunities.
Shannon has been featured as a soloist, and in the flute and woodwind sections with various orchestras, chamber ensembles, opera orchestras and musical theatre within the United States, Italy, and Mexico. She is presently Principal Flute with the Baytown Symphony, Pasadena Philharmonic Society Orchestra, and The Da Capo Chamber Ensembles, and is a substitute with the Monterrey Symphony, Symphony of Southeast Texas, and Opera in the Heights. Ms. Small has also performed with the Rome Festival Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Fritz Maraffi. She is also an active free-lance musician throughout the United States.
She is currently a faculty member teaching General Music Academics, Applied Woodwind Lessons,& coaching Woodwind Chamber Ensembles, at Brazosport College, & also has an active private studio, Leigh Studios. She has contributed to communities through outreach and enrichment programs.
Ms Small is available for solo, recital, and ensemble engagements, masterclasses, and adjudication, as well as administrative arts positions.
